Florentiner March

Remembering how much fun I had playing rousing marches in high school concert band, I was inspired to search out one that would adapt well to flute choir. Fucik came to mind, partially because of his popular circus clown theme, Entrance of the Gladiators.

I had already achieved success through my arrangement of his The Old Grumbler that features solo bass flute. I love to give all performers a chance to shine, so I moved the melody around between the parts. Typical of this style, there is a piccolo descant in the final refrain. The result: a toe tapping bundle of energy!

The Raleigh Area Flute Association pulled together a choir of professionals and advanced amateurs to record this piece during the winter of 2011 for YouTube.
