Grimsy’s Gig for flute septet

$2.00

Grimsy’s Gig contrasts a slow, serious minor key theme with a lively, Celtic dance feeling. The piece opens slowly and hauntingly, reminiscent of a graveyard at night. Each of the three C-flutes carries a different tune, like voices talking to each other from a distance. The alto and bass flutes have their moment to shine in a section that builds and speeds up to the festive portion that is hosted by the piccolo. After a lively time attended by all flutes, the piece is once again brought back to its beginning-cautiously tiptoeing to the end, leaving no trace that there was ever a party. After all, it is Grimsy’s Gig-that is, grim with whimsy.
